NW GRIEG MANNSKOR
Northwest Edvarg Grieg Society
April 28, 2024 - 4pm
W. W. Seymour Conservatory - Tacoma, WA
May 5, 2024 - 5pm
Volunteer Park Conservatory - Seattle, WA
With these concerts we will bring rarely-heard Norwegian music to audiences throughout the Northwest, and further afield, to the location Alf Hurum regarded as his home. We aim to foster connections between Norwegian and American cultures and celebrate the people who initially made them through sharing what they produced during their lifetimes and how their move affected their production. Grieg acted as an ambassador of Norwegian music for the rest of the western world, essentially putting Norway on the Art Music map. Neither Norwegian music nor those connections ended when he died. Rather they evolved and grew in new ways, many of which included emigration/immigration from Norway to the United States. Our connections run deep and this concert is one small way of celebrating those connections as well as those who initiated them through their own new chosen homes.
Featuring Hurum's Lilja
Scott Fikse conducting.

In addition to his beloved Gloria written for the famed Ospedale della Pietà orphanage in Venice, the program includes his Concerto for Trumpet and Oboe, and his dazzling Bassoon Concerto in B-flat major, “La Notte” RV 501.

The Compline Choir
August 2024
St Alban’s, St. Paul’s London, Canterbury
England, UK
In August 2024, the Compline Choir will make a third pilgrimage (the first was taken in 2000, the second in 2019) to three of England’s most storied and historic cathedrals: Saint Alban’s, Saint Paul’s, and Canterbury. At Saint Alban’s, we will reconnect with The Very Rev. Jo Kelly-Moore, who served as Archdeacon at Canterbury and led us on a transformative candlelit pilgrimage when we visited in 2019. Saint Paul’s, with Wren’s dome, is the mother church for the Diocese of London, and we were specifically invited to take up residency. Canterbury is significant because it served as a spiritual home and place of learning for our founder, Dr. Peter Hallock, during his formative years as a musical leader of the Episcopal Church, and we were privileged to pray and sing the office of compline in the crypt in 2000 and again in 2019.
Jason Allen Anderson conducting.
